For one month Liesje van den Berk was working in het Glazen Huis at an exhibition and performance in which drawing is related to space, sound and the audience. The project Drawalks is about the experience of the environment in time and space through sculpture, sign language, sound, light and movement. The observation of the Amstel Park is the inspiration for the exhibition and performance. The sound of the environment translates into staccato lines and the slithering of light over a landscape in a melodious music piece. The artist explores ways to translate the perception and experience from the Amstelpark to a physical sign of movement that leaves an image on the paper. She translates drawing on the two-dimensional plane to a drawing performance in relation to space, sound, co-performers and the audience.
It shows a constantly changing exhibition of the work process and the development of the performance Lichtlijnen. Such as a preliminary study in the form of a series of drawings of sounds from the Amstelpark and a series of drawings of the structures of the park translated to the physical drawing movements. In preparation for the performance a number of monumental drawings are developed from a number of various physical drawing movements and by drawing in a certain rhythm.
